All in the family
All in the familyTrent’s able to lead his team and easily understand issues that arise, because he was in their position not long ago.
Trent started at Love’s less than two years ago, and his positive attitude, work ethic and problem-solving skills have helped him rise through the ranks from cashier to his current role in management. Prior to 2020, though, Love’s wasn’t even on Trent’s radar as a career path.
“I was originally planning to enroll in college. Then, COVID happened, and I decided I didn’t want to attend school in the middle of a pandemic,” Trent said. “I reached out to my father for career advice, and he recommended Love’s. Dad has worked at truck stops pretty much all of his life, and he told me Love’s is the best company he’s ever worked for.”
In Trent’s almost three years at Love’s, he’s had mentors who have impacted his career greatly, including two of his former General Managers.
“My former GM would tell me if I can’t solve a problem immediately, to spend a little more time figuring it out. I learned if I went to my managers for every little thing, they’ll see me as a follower instead of a leader. When I was promoted to Operations Manager, he helped me learn how to connect with my team members on a more personal level and take the time to listen to what’s going on in their lives,” he said.
When Trent was ready for the next step in his career, one was available for him. His District Manger reached out after Love’s opened in Bellefontaine and told Trent about a restaurant General Manger position.
“At Love’s, they want their team members to grow and develop skills that benefit them on-the-job and in life. It’s very gratifying to work with folks and see them progress from the beginning of their Love’s career. You may hire a restaurant team member who thinks they’ll be in that position forever, but you start to see that development potential in them and help them realize they can go far with Love’s,” he said.
